Internet-Marketing

For anyone who is trying to drive targeted traffic to your websites, then I’m sure you’ve been told how important it is that you conduct proper keyword research.

Well how can you do that?

I’m glad you asked.

In every market (or niche) there are what we shall call “general” keyword terms. These general keyword terms will typically have the highest search volume (more persons searching for it on search engines), and there will only be a small handful of such keyword terms in a given niche.

Due to this, there is usually a lot of websites competing for these general keyword terms. A good example of this is the keyword “golf”.

In the “golf market” the most common keyword term is obviously destined to be “golf”. It gets the highest amount of searches for that niche. Additionally, it has a lot more websites competing to rank in the top 10 and more advertisers in the right hand side which implies a high price-per-click if you decide to advertise for the search term “golf”.

And this we shall call the “high hanging fruit”. It’s challenging to succeed if you’re targeting these common search terms.

You are going to attain a higher level of success concentrating on the “low hanging fruit” instead. Which keywords are the “low hanging fruit”?

Long-tail Keywords

Aimed towards long tail keywords with article marketing makes it so much easier to rank in the top 10 for that given keyword and actually ranking in the top 10 of Google is the only thing that matters.

No matter if you’re on page 2 for a keyword that receives thousands of searches per month, because you’ll still hardly get any clicks.

It is simply the way it is. Most people when doing a search query, don’t go beyond the first 3 search results let alone the first page!

An illustration of this a “long-tail” keyword for the “golf market” will be “How to Use a 9 Iron”. Notice what I’m getting at here?

There are countless long-tail keywords for a given market which suggests there is loads of keywords to rank for and squeeze traffic from.

It is also beneficial to advertise under long-tail keywords using pay-per-click like Google AdWords. Not only is the price-per-click generally gonna be much cheaper, but the visitors are usually further along in the “buying process” which means they’re more likely to be receptive to your marketing message.

This mainly tends to make those who search using long-tail keywords the “buyers” in virtually any given market. Which is merely what every single online marketer wants.
